Bouquets

Flowers make me smile.  Maybe it’s their bright colors or memories of walking through fields alive with butterflies and hummingbirds.  Whatever it is, flowers make me happy.  So why not a ceramic bouquet?  

My first flowers were stemless--petals pressed against raised portions of a vase.  Although attractive, they seemed lifeless.  I then experimented with various gauges of wire and epoxy compounds that I could manipulate.  Voila, my flowers had stems and could now be arranged in a vase.  However, the flowers were much heavier than their natural counterparts.  So, I added acrylic cement to the vase to stabilize the bouquet.  But I still felt something was missing.

My “Ah Hah” moment came at a Dale Chihuly exhibit at the Desert Botanical Gardens.  I was stunned by thousands of colorful glass spires, spikes, and twisted reeds standing amongst the flowers.  Back in the studio, I experimented with various shapes and colors.

Now comingled in the arrangements, these bright “Twisties” enliven and complete my bouquets.  

Each flower in a bouquet fits into a sleeve inside the vase, enabling you to arrange the bouquet and

replace a flower if it gets broken.
